The PTA raises and provides funding for Visual, Vocal and Theatre Arts. The school’s Art Committee serves as advisors to the PTA Board on arts education, and also interviews and selects the Artists in Residence.
Artists in Residence
The PTA is excited to sponsor the year's first Artists-in-Residence at Greenwood Elementary. Chris Degrai, hip hop dancer, will teach all K-5 students during their regularly scheduled PE classes for three weeks. Chris will work together with the PE Teacher, Jeanne Bastach, to provide hip hop dance instruction and a final performance on Thursday, February 11 at 6:30pm. A big thank you to the PTA for raising the funds to bring Chris and Jackie with their vast experiences to Greenwood!
Jackie Graybill comes to us via Music Lessons on Wheels and will work with Greenwood's K-3rd grade students until June. Jackie will provide music and movement instruction, focusing on vocal music while the 4th and 5th graders continue with their instrumental music lessons.
Chris and Jackie, are very excited about working with the children at Greenwood Elementary!
Visual art instruction takes place weekly in a dedicated art classroom and is a highlight for many students. All of the arts are important because they allow students to express themselves in a wide variety of ways, whether with paint, glue, song or instruments.
Student art work is often seen gracing the hallways and classrooms. A few times each year there is an Art Walk when guests can view a selection of student work throughout the school, often in conjunction with a school concert. Art work is also created for Greenwood’s Annual Auction. Students and teachers often collaborate to provide unique pieces, such as this quilt and these tile projects. The beautiful auction art raises monies for future Artists in Residence. We are fortunate to have the variety of arts instruction available at Greenwood Elementary on a regular basis. Please stop by and have a look or come to a school concert to hear the latest works.
