Physical
Education News - Boardwalk 5K Run & Walk, April
27th @ Husky Stadium
Please consider
joining us on April 27th as we show our support for Seattle Public Schools
Physical Education! This great event helps raise money to support large
and diverse sets of physical education equipment shared by physical education
teachers across the district. These sets of equipment (juggling, roller
skates, archery, fencing, pedometers, etc.... ) allow schools with limited
PE funding the same opportunity to expose children to a wide variety of
activities which will help them choose a physically active lifestyle.
I've never heard of an equipment-sharing program this extensive in any
other district and it's budget has been slashed, so the equipment is falling
apart.
50% of our registration donations go to the shared district equipment
and 50% of our registration donations are supposed to go directly to our
Greenwood PE budget, but because we have so much equipment and a larger
PE budget than other schools in lower poverty neighborhoods.
Please check out this
website for more info.... or to register or donate money.

Library
The Greenwood School Library is open to all school families. Our
librarian, Mrs. Rankin, welcomes parents and guardians to get their
own library cards and check out materials in their own names. Library
volunteers are welcome, especially those who are willing and able
to commit to a regular weekly time to shelve books.
Art/Music/Drama
Greenwood School maintains a commitment to integrating the arts
into every student’s education. Artist in residence is provided
for Art, Music, and Drama and funded by the PTA. Grades K-2 has
a half-hour music session once a week on Fridays. Students learn
music theory, play rhythm instruments, sing songs, and play musical
games. Grades 3-5 are exposed to Drama and K-5 are provided with
Art instruction.
Internet Access
Every student will have access to the Internet in classrooms, and
at the Library. The School District uses an Internet filter that
blocks the majority of sites inappropriate for student use. In addition,
school staff will teach responsible Internet use and supervise students
to the extent that is practical.
Safety Patrol
In addition to the Seattle Police Department Adult Safety Patrol,
Greenwood School has a Student Safety Patrol. Student crossing guards
are trained and supervised by Claudia Andrade. Students provide
crossing help at the stop light at the intersection of 3rd NW and
NW 81st. Fourth and Fifth-grade students may apply to volunteer
as crossing guards.
Banking
Any student at Greenwood School may set up an account at Washington
Mutual Bank through the school-banking program. Parents must fill
out a form including the child’s social security number. Washington
Mutual will deposit 25¢ when your child opens an account. Students
can make deposits with a minimum deposit of 25¢ on banking
days. There are no service fees for this account. After every two
deposits, the student will receive a small prize. Statements are
mailed to the student's home every three months. Deposits can be
made in Room 227A from 9:00-10:00 am on Thursdays.
