Students Weigh on on Seattle Center Redesign
Greenwood Elementary School 4th and
5th grade students, in collaboration with Greenwood parent and registered
architect Anneke Hagen and Artist in Residence Linda Carlson-Brazil,
have been working on a project to create proposals for the Seattle Center
redesign. The
project was featured in an article in the Seattle Times Kids
draw on imagination to redesign Seattle Center.
The three 4th & 5th grade classes learned about the design process
through brainstorming with words and pictures, and ultimately detailing
their designs on the Seattle Times submission forms. In just two class
sessions each of the students became a site designer for the Seattle
Center redesign. The enthusiasm for the project was seen in every student
as they were allowed the freedom to create something they were passionate
about, be it a giant maze, a water park, a natural history museum, various
outdoor parks and the amazing Space Needle 2 which is connected by a
sky bridge to the original Space Needle. In the near future Ms. Carlson-Brazil
and Ms Hagen plan to have the students build small scale models of their
building ideas from this submission.
